During the first century AD a branch of the ‘kidangayam’ Brahmin family, a reputed family which claims and ancestry of over 2050 years, powerful, rich, noble and aristocratic, embraced Christianity, baptized by saint Thomas, the apostle of Jesus Christ. After being a christian  they settled down in the suburbs of the Christian church in Arthat, kunnamkulam, cooperating in the adminstation of the Syrian church there. This family who lived there, with the family name “kidangayathu matte-mana” was the original family name. The head of the family was ‘karnavar’, according to the hindu tradition and they lived in the place called ‘kanjoor’ angadi, kanayannoor taluk and he assisted the administration of the country for the ruler, the king of thirukochi with the official name ‘kariyasthan’ or supervisor. He had two issues one of them became the kariyasthan of ‘vattekattu akathuuttu karnavar’  and he setteled at vattekattu. They were later on called as ‘kidangayathu thombras’. The other son became the ‘kariyasthan’ of the ‘kulangara  akathuuttu karnavar’ and settled down at kuruppampady angadi. The successors of ths karanavar were called “kidangayathu mattamanas”. They were the members of the Syrian church at kuruppampady. During 1737 some of the members of the church got released from the kuruppampady church and the foundation stone for the mudickarayi catholic church was laid. On the very same day the foundation stone for our family too was laid.
12 generations have elapsed and there are 250 families at present and over 1500 members are living in India and abroad. From 1939 onwards family meetings are conducted annually. At present the members are well known as the members of “mattamana” family
